Minqi Laoshi fosters a supportive and enjoyable learning environment. Her dedication shows in the way she personally corrects my pronunciation via WhatsApp recordings, helping me learn with confidence and accuracy. One of my most memorable experiences was sitting for an exam alongside much younger students. Even though we were at different stages of life, the nervousness felt just like my university days. I picked up Mandarin as a way to stay busy, reading and learning new words, and it also makes it easier to connect with my Chinese friends, even though I still have a long way to go. Learning Mandarin isn’t easy, but it’s very rewarding. I learn new words and sentences each week, and I’m excited for the day I can understand and speak it well, making conversations much more fun. I’m really glad to get to know Bunga Laoshi. Her teaching is fun, and I can understand the lessons much better, xiexie! I can now speak a bit of Mandarin with my friends and understand some of the way native speakers talk. Learning at Kunkwan has also helped me enjoy Chinese dramas more, as I can now watch some without relying too much on subtitles. Classes with Bunga lǎoshī were enjoyable and fun! We were asked to participate in questioning and answering, making every class truly interactive. In the tourism field, communication skills are important, and learning Mandarin has made me more confident to communicate. Mandarin is known to be difficult, and miscommunication often happens, but learning it has helped me break down communication barriers and better understand how Mandarin speakers communicate. It’s such an honour to have Bunga lǎoshī as our Level A teacher. She is kind, patient, understanding, and supportive, making sure students were not intimidated by the complexity of the language. The course module is very well-developed, and Ain Laoshi is attentive, patient, and very knowledgeable. I love how fun she is when teaching, and how she explains things so well with great enthusiasm. Agnes Laoshi was very enthusiastic and always gave students opportunities to speak, gently correcting us in a soft and easy tone. She makes sure everyone understands the meaning and never teaches too fast. One memorable moment was learning the word “nǚ’ér” (daughter). She patiently corrected me because saying it wrong would change the meaning completely! We also tried singing the Rasa Sayang song using numbers, which was hilarious since we were out of tune, but thankfully we got it right in the end. I’m able to understand simple Mandarin conversations when speakers talk slowly, which is amazing for me as a CIC level student since I rarely get to speak Mandarin every day. I’m proud of my progress, now I can relate some words I learned while watching dramas, even if I sometimes struggle with tones. Agnes Laoshi, xie xie nin for everything from start to finish.
